Dear Graduate Student:
The College of Nursing, University of Tennessee, Knoxville has applied for a Professional Nurse Traineeship Award from the Department of Health and Human Services, Public Health Service. Preference for awards will be given to applicants who reside in health professional shortage areas designated under Section 332 of the PHS Act. Traineeship awards cover all or part of the current in-state tuition and fees for full-time (minimum of 9 hours enrollment in fall or spring term) or part-time (less than 9 hours) students. NOTE: If you receive tuition reimbursement from any source (e.g., employer, external scholarship, etc.), you are not eligible to apply for these funds.
Every effort will be made to fund tuition and fees for all eligible applicants. If the number of applicants and limited funds make this impossible, selection of recipients will be based on the following criteria:
1. Resident of health professional shortage area designated under Section 332
of the PHS Act.
2. Cumulative GPA for undergraduate and any previous graduate level nursing courses
3. Future professional goals
4. Professional accomplishments
In addition, recipients of the award must be United States citizens and currently licensed as registered nurses. Recipients are also required to register continuously as full-time or part-time students during the academic year (unless graduating in December 2008); continue to make satisfactory progress toward the degree; remain in good standing with the University; keep the College of Nursing informed of any change of name or address and place of employment for at least 3 years following completion of the program; and respond to communications from the Division of Nursing concerning professional activities following completion of the program.
Applications are due electronically to Dr. Jan Lee by 5pm on Friday, July 13, 2008. Submissions should be made through the College of Nursing online application webpage.
Sincerely,
Jan L. Lee, RN, PhD
