An intercollegiate/interdisciplinary undergraduate gerontology minor is coordinated through the
Interdisciplinary Gerontology Colloquy Group members from the College of Nursing; College of Education,
Health, and Human Sciences; and College of Social Work. Courses from these colleges are available under
the gerontology minor.
Requirements:
Prior to earning more than one-half the total hours required for this minor, students must
complete a
Declaration of a Gerontology Minor form found in the advising offices in each of the participating
colleges, and in the office of the current Gerontology Coordinator identified by the interdisciplinary
Gerontology Colloquy.
A Declaration of a Gerontology Minor form must be filled out and signed by the student
and the Gerontology Coordinator. Information is available in the Undergraduate Catalog under gerontology.
Students must complete a core experience of 12 semester hours, as follows:
Coursework (9 hours):
A variety of course work may be
taken toward satisfaction of this requirement. Courses which are offered
include: CFS 312, NURS 400, HLTH 406, HLTH 465, and other courses may be taken
with permission of the Gerontology Coordinator.
CFS 312 – Family in Late/Middle Adulthood
NURS 400 – Aging and Society
Health 406 – Death, Dying & Bereavement
Health 465 – Aging and Health
Applied Practicum (3 hours):
NUR 402 Gerontology Practicum or a practicum experience within the home department. Nursing students may use NURS 461 to satisfy this requirement.
Graduation:
When an application for graduation is completed, the minor in Gerontology must also be noted on the application in order for the minor to be placed on the student?s transcript.
