Outstanding Alumni of the Year Awards Dinner
The
College of Nursing recently honored several graduates during the
annual Alumni of the Year Awards Dinner on November 4, 2005. (Pictured
from left) Dr. Margaret Heins Laning (MSN '87) was awarded the Dr.
Sylvia E. HartDistinguished Alumni Award. The award is given to
a graduate of the college who has made significant contributions
to the nursing profession and to the college. Dr. Laning is the
retired director of the Fort Sanders/Tennessee Wesleyan School of
Nursing. She currently serves on the college's Board of Visitors
and has been very active in many professional nursing organizations.
Dr. Gayle Denham (PhD '96), nursing professor at Eastern Kentucky
University, received the award for Excellence in Nursing Education.
Dr, Joan Creasia, dean of the College of Nursing, presented the
awards.Jean Fitzgerald (BSN '83) received the award for Excellence
in Nursing Administration. Mrs. Fitzgerald is the nurse manager
of 9-East at the University of Tennessee Medical Center. Kelli Tidwell
(MSN '00) received the award for Excellence in Patient Care. Kelli
is a family nurse practitioner at Endocrinology Consultants of East
Tennessee in Knoxville.
